State of the Coast attendees are eligible to earn continuing education credits across a variety of professions. The conference offers a wealth of opportunities for professional development through technical sessions, plenaries and expert panels.

Engineers

The Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board (LAPELS) does not pre-approve credit hours from State of the Coast. Instead, engineers seeking professional development hours (PDHs) are encouraged to use their discretion when choosing which sessions to attend.

Most technical sessions at SOC qualify under LAPELS guidelines, which include topics on engineering, ethics, codes, quality assurance and professional development. For more information, please click here.

Landscape architects

The Louisiana Horticulture Commission does not pre-approve continuing education credit hours from State of the Coast. Instead, landscape architects are advised to use their discretion in selecting sessions relevant to their practice.

Floodplain managers

The Association of State Floodplain Managers has approved State of the Coast for four continuing education credits (CECs) per day, for a total of up to 12 CECs over three days. Attendees may choose any sessions they find relevant. 

Accountants

Certified public accountants may earn up to 20 continuing professional education (CPE) credits in the category of personal development by attending sessions that focus on leadership, decision-making, environmental economics, public policy and risk management. Recommended sessions include all listed above under the lawyer section
